Irvine II - President's Summary

Following the success of our inaugural lunch November 2004, word quickly spread and the Committee pulled out all stops doubling the number of ranks to 140. The second function was held at the Victorian Club at Rialto.

MC Tony Wilson was at his entertaining best regaling us with a number of stories as to how he is a good fit for the Irvine “dum pleb fre e eo” – for those that almost made it, a loose translation at best! Lawrence Mooney then kicked in for a whirlwind 30 minutes of blokey gags.

David Parkin was lined up as keynote for the day so you can imagine our initial horror when he called the night before to advise that he was unable to get to the lunch on account of having to sadly attend a funeral. To David’s great credit, he was able to line up Tim Lane to fill in for him and we are to this day very much appreciative of what Tim did for us that day along with his ongoing support of the Irvine Club since. Tim was the consummate professional, slotting into the breach with ease and keeping the troops thoroughly entertained predominantly with stories from his commentating days and of course the old AFL Tasmania team debate.

A terrific lunch was enjoyed by all as evidenced by the 80 guests still playing pool hours later at the Victorian Club.
