On Friday 24 March 2006, the Irvine Club celebrated its 4th lunch in style at Zinc at Federation Square on the Yarra’s edge. Refreshments were then held on the decking at Zinc and then continued at Transport Bar until late in the evening. With the Commonwealth Games as a background spectacle, it was great to see all attendees put in gold-medal performances, especially those that lasted the whole day/night.
On behalf of my fellow committee members, I would like to thank everyone who participated on the day in what was a great success. We would also like to extend a vote of thanks to the following groups which supported the day:
- YAK Flights
- Sandringham Yacht Club
- Hyland Sportswear
- GO4
- Pitcher Partners
- Mike Minett and the Walkabouts Cricket Team
- Mick Fennessy from Honan Insurance Brokers
We were delighted with the quality of our speakers (Scotty Cummings and Sam Kekovich) and thank them for taking the time to support the day. Our nominated charity for the lunch was “The Lighthouse Foundation” who benefited from the proceeds of the lunch.
We would especially like to thank Mike Keaney for attending and speaking on behalf of the Lighthouse Foundation. Consistent with the Irvine’s aim of bringing together people for social reasons, we are also keen to ensure that we all do so while giving back to society at the same. Mike’s message and the way it was delivered, and received, will ensure that this aim is met.
Looking forward, the rich Irvine tradition will be further strengthened with the timely announcement of the arrival of our club’s namesake, Jock Irvine, at ‘Irvine 5’ to be held on Friday 17 November 2006 at the MCG. Jock is flying across from Perth in what promises to be a huge day for the club at the ‘Ashes Lunch’. As the Irvine goes from strength to strength, we encourage all to get in early and guarantee their spot. The lunch will be further supported by Tim Lane and Rodney Hogg.
Once again we thank you for your contribution to the day and look forward to seeing you on November 17.
Kind regards,
Paul Grant
