Irvine VI - President's Summary

The new RACV Club was the venue for Irvine Club Lunch VI on 11 May 2007 with a number of guests then continuing on to the Lexington Bar at GPO. Consistent with previous lunches, the number of guests increased significantly, with 340 guests attending. It is amazing to think that our first lunch in November 2004 attracted 69 people and that we now face challenges in seeking to accommodate large numbers and find venues that can cater for the Irvine Club’s needs. These are pleasant issues but certainly not ones we anticipated confronting in only our third year of operation.

As stated at the lunch, the Irvine Club places high emphasis on supporting chosen charities and we were pleased to support RecLink Australia at the lunch. Peter Cullen, the founder of RecLink, spoke passionately about the role RecLink plays in supporting disadvantaged Australians and of RecLink’s desire to support those in the Northern Territory, in particular, where societal issues are increasing. We were therefore delighted that we were able to support RecLink from an awareness and financial perspective and we look forward to seeing funds raised from the lunch being used in the community to support those in need.

We were also pleased to welcome our speakers, Stan Alves & Jarrod Molloy , making their first Irvine Club appearances, and Dave Grant, making a return to the Irvine fold after kickstarting the club at our inaugural lunch in November 2004. They left a lasting impression on all who attended and we thank them for their support of the Irvine Club.

As the Irvine Club continues to grow, we are keen to look at new initiatives to ensure that all who attend or are involved, are provided with fresh experiences and an innovative way of being entertained. We are also keen to ensure that the positive contribution the Irvine Club makes to society, by supporting charitable organisations, continues to be a key focus. These remain key values that we are committed to.

As one lunch concludes, so must the next lunch be planned. We look forward to releasing details of Irvine Club Lunch VII, which is being planned for mid-November 2007. Until that time, thanks all for your support and we look forward to sharing many more Irvine experiences with you.
