Once again the Irvine Club committee and guests gathered for a Friday Lunch (November 17, 2006) to celebrate the upcoming Ashes Series and welcome our surprise guest from WA, Jock Irvine. As noted below in more detail, the Irvine Club was in part named after Jock’s heroic cricket career. Jock’s debut lunch at the home of cricket (MCG) was enthusiastically received by those rapidly increasing attendees who have bonded with our concept and ongoing attempts to support various charities.
We would like to sincerely thank Mr Tim Lane and Mr Rodney Hogg for their support of the day. Tim’s memorable interview with Jock was one of the many highlights which made the day an incredible success and Hoggie enthralled all attendees with a topical, humorous (41 @ 12.85) and overall brilliant speech.
Whilst the Victorians were losing first innings points to Tasmania in the background, Tim and Jock recollected stories about his career as a first class cricketer for WA and his touring experiences with the Australian Test side. These experiences were essentially what endeared him to our committee, and we are proud to be associated with such a gentleman. We look forward to entertaining Jock at future Irvine luncheons and events.
In the Irvine Club tradition to alternate charities for our events, we decided to align ourselves with the Spinal Cord Society of Australia (‘SCSA’) which was apt given that our lunch coincided with Spinal Cord Awareness Week. Mr George Owen spoke on behalf of the SCSA and we were delighted to be associated with such a noble cause. The kind donations and financial success of the day will go a long way to ensure that this charity prospers in its ultimate goal to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
On behalf of the Irvine members, I would also like to especially thank the following groups for their support of our lunch:
We look forward to seeing everyone at the March/April 2007 Irvine lunch which will be announced in the coming months.
Once again we would like to thank everyone who contributed to a wonderfully successful day as you are an important part of the Irvine Club’s continued success.
Kind regards,
Paul Grant
